The Parish of Brahetrolleborg’s Folklore Collection
The Folklore Collection is an association started in 1975, based on voluntary contributions of effects from the general public. Our aim is to register and conserve archives and effects, which have to do with the parish of Brahetrolleborg. So if the box room, the loft or the drawers need clearing out, then let the Folklore Collection decide what should be kept for posterity.
The Folklore Collection is open to everyone, and all material is available in the reading room, excepting a few items.
The Folklore Collection contains many different archives, among other things, certificates, diaries, family trees, deeds, protocols, photos, film and so on. Apart from that, the collection contains schoolbooks and other school things, along with the book collection of Niels Rasmussen Søkilde, farmer and local historian, which is made up of books, manuscripts, drawings, poems etc. The Folklore Collection also includes the aforementioned N. R. Søkilde’s medallions, and the silver fountain-pen, with which he wrote his books and letters.
The Folklore Collection includes unique information on the old buildings in the parish. It took schoolmaster Kaj Christiansen 20 years to compile this, using N. R. Søkilde’s book ”250 Years Of The District Of Trolleborg And Its Residents”. These records cover the years from 1646 to 2000, and lists tenants and owners of the properties. There are also some photographs.
Gærup Scholl Museum
Gærup School Museum was started in 1975 in association with the Museum of the Diocese of Fünen (Fyns Stiftsmuseum), which gladly handed over a collection of effects, along with several posters from an exhibition at Fyns Stiftsmuseum. These items originally came from Gærup school.
The one-room school consisted of a rektangular classroom, 35 sq. meters in area, but due to various practical considerations, it has only been possible to set up a part of the original schoolroom.
